Talk of the House

OK. Here’s my Monday morning question for you.

Who doesn’t love staring at a cool, well-designed gallery wall?

You too?

Because today I get to tell you all about this fun little gallery wall project organized by my uber talented friends Mary Ann and Cindy.

The idea is pretty straightforward (otherwise moi would be in trouble).  On next Monday October 13th, all these fabulous participants are going to share a “before” photo of the wall they’ll be transforming. And the big Reveal--with all those juicy behind-the-scene tips—is just one week later on October 20th.

  • October-20th-the big Reveal

Now I have to admit. There aren’t many rooms inside our new fixer upper that are what you’d call, blogworthy.

(Ok, like zero)

But if you’ve been a visitor here, you already know the story. How we relocated from our family home in Northern California and landed down here in sunny Huntington Beach, and recently moved into our home.

Only being so close to these gorgeous waves meant trading our comfortable 3,400 square foot home for something very …hmmm, let’s just say the phase, ‘Welcome to my humble abode,’ has new meaning for me...

So no. I won’t be going crazy with the camera shots around here unless you want to see a lot of “Before” rooms that have nothing to do with this gallery wall.

But...

Yippee….. I do have ONE room that’s ready for this fun project and I can’t wait to show you next week.

In the meantime let’s talk some gallery wall inspiration.

When it comes to creating an arrangement for your own wall there’s plenty of resources out there, like HERE and HERE and HERE.

But it really depends on your own style.

Do you prefer more cohesive artwork in a classic grid lay-out?

Or do like the salon style?

hanging some pieces closer and others farther apart and mixing frame styles…

Do you prefer to measure and create a “map” before putting the first nail in your wall?

Or do you like playing around with your collection

I’ve got some ideas for this wall of mine.

But honestly, I can’t wait to see what some of my favorite bloggers are planning. These gals are the real thing and thank you Cindy and Mary Ann for including me with this talented bunch.

……BTW--I’m so glad you stopped by on my Day 6,

…yep. I’m still at it.

xoxo

I love gallery walls, but don't have the space for one with all of Steve's paintings on the walls. In our former home, the gallery was measured out perfectly with all different sizes of work.

So fun to see where you are getting your inspiration!!!
I hope you are loving Huntington Beach…we would have been neighbors. But I'm down there all the time…would love to have coffee with you. Can wait to see your gallery wall.

Oh fun Leslie. I have done a few over the years and I am less of the "mathematical design" and more of the scattered approach.
Looking forward to your design.

So impressive that you are tackling a gallery wall after just having moved! We moved a year ago and I think it was almost 9 months before I got around to putting any art on the walls. Looking forward to seeing your art wall and following along as you fix up your new home!

Love the inspiration photos. I am afraid I have been a "hang it in rows" (with symmetry) kind of girl, but I want to break free of that confinement with this project. With that said, my favorite photo was the one of the pictures hanging overlapped in the bedroom.

I love them both, but tend to choose the cohesive, maybe because the random seems so much harder to get to fit. Adore the images going up the staircase!!

Whew we did it!!I can only imagine what a challenge this is with a remodel! If you are anything like me it is always good to have a deadline. Can't wait to see your design I am wondering where it is going to be I have an inkling I think!!!

P.S I have always loved that image with the overlapping frames above the bed. I would love to try that somewhere!!

Leslie,
This is going to be fun for readers of all of these talented participants, yourself included! A great wall gallery can make a room, in my humble opinion. It's one of my favorite things in a room when done well. My "wall gallery" folder is already brimming with ideas, I can't wait to add to it.

Karen

I'm adding to my gallery wall in the living area. My daughter and I just "eyeball" and hang and it all turns out great! I don't have the patience to map out, cut out paper, etc.

Can't wait to see what yours looks like ~ I know it's going to be beautiful!

I love gallery walls. We have one in our living room and dinning room.
We receive several fun comments from guests and family.
Looking forward to yours.

I've already learned something new....the difference between gallery wall and salon walls!

Oh I love gallery walls! It's just the planning part that freaks me out a bit. I love the gallery shelves we recently made. They are great for a photo gallery that changes and grows all the time. But I'd really like a cool art based gallery wall around our TV in the sunroom. Hmmm, I have some pondering to do!

I can't wait to see what you do! It brings so much personality to a space! We love our gallery wall and I found a big 1930s era plein air painting at the thrift store last week! I could not believe my eyes. I don't have any formula for display...just hang them in a way that makes me happy!
