little boxwood wreaths

DSC_0562copy

Well, Day Two of decorating is over and I’m happy to say I’ve made quite a bit of progress.

I ended up making these little boxwood wreaths for my living room windows—all five of them and they were so easy I thought I’d share it today.

I also finished my white dining room which included making this lovely moss chandelier. But unfortunately it got dark so early I couldn’t get any good photos, so I’ll show you this room in my next post. Very simple and muted colors which I ended up loving.

But for now, here’s how I made my boxwood wreaths. First I have to do a little shout out for Kari Anne over at Thistlewood Farm because she gave me this idea when she made little boxwood present toppers.

I had already seen these wreaths on Pinterest.

And then Kari Anne showed me how easy it was to make a circle with boxwood and it got me thinking about my bare windows.

Don’t you love how one idea leads to another?

I already had this steel galvanized wire (18 gauge) and I simply made a circle.  Actually I made five, one for each window.

Next, I went outside and mentally thanked myself for letting the garden go for awhile, because I had perfectly overgrown boxwood shrubs ready to cut.

I used floral wire to tie the boxwood to the wire form.

It seemed to work best when I started with two sturdy pieces.

And ta-da! This is what they look like when they’re finished. I’m hoping they’ll dry out and keep their green color when they hang in the heated room.

But I’m enjoying them now…even if they don’t last forever. I added a couple red miniature bulbs and hung them with a wide red ribbon.

I really like the pop of color on my windows. And the best part was how easy they were to make.

Thanks for visiting.

I want to feature them in a post, but am unable to get the url for the images so I can show a photo in my post. Can you send me the url or the image for the photo that shows the wreaths in the window? It's the thrid one down. Thanks!!

I love that look! I had this in mind to do last year - I saw the idea of hanging them in a window in a magazine last Christmas season. I'm still waiting on my shutters to go up before I add anything to my living room windows though!

I'm running outside right now with clippers in hand to make a few of these. My boxwood is in bad need of a haircut, so I'll kill two birds with one stone. Thanks for the idea.
