a vintage Christmas…

This morning I woke up in my own bed and I felt utter relief rush over me. Today the rain is pelting down on our roof and it’s a gray, stormy day but I feel so happy to be home again.

I feel relieved that the big Christmas show is finally over and I have memories with Michael that I’ll treasure forever.

I feel relieved that our annual Utah trip is over and that in the frenetic pace of it all, we found time to see old friends and meet Shaun, their adorable five year old son.

I feel relieved that sweet little Elliot Langton has stabilized following her brain surgery. And if you’re reading these words it would be so kind of you to send your most tender, positive thoughts to her hospital bed.

And I feel unbelievably contented to have the fireplace going with my favorite Bette Davis movie (Jezebel) on in the background

while I work on my decorating projects for Christmas.

Yes, I just returned home and I’ve already got my mantel almost done.

And I’ve painted a pair of old shutters for my new dining room look for Christmas.

I’ve also painted a chalkboard tray to go on my white hutch.

And I’ve dipped some pinecones in white paint …

And I’m working on a creamy white banner with the simple word, Joy.

I can’t wait to see how my distressed white shutters look in my dining room. I found these shutters at my favorite thrift store and they’ve been sitting in my garage for months because I didn’t know what to do with them.

Don’t you love it when you have those sudden creative ‘ah-ha’ moments when you can suddenly see where something should go? And what it should look like?

What kinds of things are you doing today?

Something creative?

Or maybe just relaxing with the family?

Well, I’m home today, and I’m loving it.

Thanks for stopping by and visiting me, I really do appreciate You!

Wow, you've been busy in the short amount of time you've been back! I feel like a slacker in comparison :) I can't wait to see the shutters. I've been wanting to put some up in my family room forever and a day!

Sending thoughts to Eliot. Be brave!

And those angel wings. How adorable. My dream one year is to fashion a reindeer out of branches and twigs. Must get started.
