A post for my dear blogger friends:
This morning I sat down at my desk and got ready to publish my Monday post.
But first I checked my emails. I got into town late last night and I wanted to respond to some comments that had been left on my blog. I’m sure you do this too, I like to visit bloggers who take time to comment on my posts, and usually I enjoy discovering new blogs this way.
But the first place I went left me flabbergasted.
I opened up a blog and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
A blogger I didn’t know had cut and pasted entire excepts from my post, the secret of being happy. My eyes immediately scanned her post looking for a link back or any acknowledgment that these were my words, and I found none. Zero. Nothing.
I have to admit, I felt so violated. I’ve heard stories of this happening, but I never thought it would happen to me. And I’d still like to believe it was a mistake, that somehow this person didn’t intend to give her readers the impression that my words and thoughts were actually HERS, because well, that’s stealing.
And if it really was intentional, it blows me away. I can’t imagine doing this to another blogger. It’s so wrong. So I sent her an email back and asked her to do the right thing. And I’m waiting.
I haven’t posted her name or blog yet, because I would like to hope for the best.
I would like to believe that most of us who write on the web have a sense of integrity. And understand the rules of writing. And citing our sources.
But I’m still quite shocked as I write these words. It makes me feel unsafe. I want to close my door and lock it, keep the scary strangers away and only let in my dear circle of friends…
What about you?
Has this ever happened to you?
Leslie

she copied and pasted your words from your blog???
wow.
how did you find this out? she did that and then left you a comment??
so sorry. that is just rude and you are quite sweet to give her time to do the right thing. i love your blog (obviously she does too)and find you to be a true original.
xo
What, she had the audacity to tell you after she had taken your post?????
Wow, that's terrible someone would do that! Hopefully she admits to her mistake and apologizes/tries to make it right...but that's just so incredibly rude/wrong...so sorry that happened to you!
Dear Leslie,
This is so disheartening to hear. Your blog is amazing, and I hope that she can dig deep enough to find her own content. It is stealing and I hope that she responds to you. I am dealing with something similar right now and it is actually quite infuriating. Wishing you all the best and kuddos for addressing this on your space.
People can be rude! I've heard of this happening to so many other bloggers!! Sorry this happened to you Leslie!
It has never happened to my written word, but I have had projects and ideas copied and no mention to where they'd seen it. I would be livid if someone stole what I wrote though. I think that is so much more personal. Makes me feel icky.
Sorry Leslie:(( its hard to understand why someone would do that and what would be her or his point???
oh so wrong, how did you learn about it? Did another blogger alert you? You're taking the high road, but wow, I'm so sorry this happened to you.
Ugh. I'm so sorry. That is just wrong! I would like to know too how you found out? is it a blog you normally read? I've gotten some ping backs from places I didn't recognize but couldn't get to a site to check it out. So I don't know for sure if this has happened to me or not. I can tell you I would not be happy if it did and I would feel violated just like you do. I'm so sorry. Quoting someone or pasting a bit from someone's blog with the proper acknowlegements and links is fine but stealing is NOT!
HOpe you can get this issue settled.
wow. definitely NOT cool! how did you find out?
