St Patrick's Table for Two

To be perfectly honest we don't do much in the way of celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Which is a bit ironic since the hubby's family name is Fitzpatrick. But once my boys were college-age I always felt ambivalent about this alcohol-crazed holiday, and relieved when it was all over.
Trust me. If you've got boys in college you'll know what I mean.
But the other day Jim called me from work and surprised me with a "Hey, Happy 2-year-Anniversary!" and I instantly knew what he meant.
This month--two years ago- we packed our belongings and embarked on our private little adventure, leaving the family home we'd raised our boys in--and our closest friends and family-- and relocated to Southern California. It might not sound so courageous to some of you intrepid souls but for us -- at our age- it felt like a bold thing to do.

In honor of our little milestone, I decided to create a simple, inexpensive St. Patrick's Table-For-Two inspired by this emerald green vase I found in the thrift store.

I added three rolls of ribbon and these bright, sparkly pins I found on the jewelry aisle of Joann's Fabric and Craft store. They were on sale--2 for 1-- for a grand total of $3.99.
I bought a bouquet of grocery store flowers...

When it comes to St. Patrick's Day decorations I'm a Less- is-More kinda gal.

As you can see, I'm just keeping it simple today.

We plan on having a quiet, romantic dinner for this holiday...seems like a good time to count our blessings over some delicious food and wine.

What are your plans for St. Patrick's Day?

This is so lovely, Leslie! I'm inspired to look for a pretty piece of green glass!
It's hard to believe it was 2 years ago that you made the move...I thought you were very bold, too! Enjoy your special dinner!

Leslie,
What a pretty emerald green footed vase. I love the way the table turned out. We used to have people come for dinner on the weekend close to the date, but this year I'm thinking I'll make an Irish dinner for the two of us as well. Maybe a corned beef or a brisket. I like both with potatoes and maybe soda bread.
thanks for the inspiration and happy 2nd SoCal Anniversary.

Leslie, your creative use of the ribbon to embellish this table inspires me. I haven't given much thought to what I might do for Cuisine Kathleen's Annual Blog Crawl, so you have me thinking of some ideas. Love the pretty green vase with the roses. Gorgeous! Also like your sentiment, Lucky in Love! May I borrow that tag line?
Happy 2nd Southern California Anniversary!

Leslie,

The green goblets and flowers had me at hello! So pretty and classy! Most do a razzle dazzle with sparkly green hats and clovers!! lol!

I know what you mean about the boozing. I live in a 100% Irish Catholic neighborhood. Our St. Paddy's parade is legendary in Chicago. A few years ago they actually put an end to it due to the littering and noise. Not violence or anything...just too many happy, sloppy people. Then they reinstated it a year later with strict laws about liquor sales and tighter police control. Again, it's a great parade for families. Ah ha...done!

We do the traditional corned beef and cabbage and Irish soda bread. I don't decorate. I'm silly but steadfast that I'm half German and half Irish. Hubby is half French and half Irish. When we can have a day to celebrate each, I'll be on board!

I remember your leap of faith. I'm glad to read as time goes on that you are settled and happy! :D

I love the way you added the ribbon stripes to the table.

We don't do St. Patrick's Day except for an occasional dinner. Maybe we should change that.

You always create the loveliest floral arrangements. They are always the perfect size and they are so elegant.
I think that your move does sound brave-
my husband and I may move to be nearer our daughters some day.
I never thought I would say that.

And so it goes-

Thank you for joining Thoughts of Home on Thursday.

I love the simplicity of your table and I can't believe it has been 2 years since you left Sacramento. And now, I have a daughter living in Sac. We will be spending Easter there this year.

Thanks for linking up to the party.
