Lately I’ve had my eye on lighting fixtures.
The house we’re moving into has a pretty bland entry way. Well, technically it might not even qualify as a entry since the front door opens directly into the stairs. Seriously, it’s the oddest thing.
I can’t figure out if this was the original floorplan or if the previous owners made some quirky, structural changes but the entire area—stairs and entry---will need some work.
This is the lighting fixture I had in the entry of my previous home.
And right now I’m leaning toward something totally different… maybe an oversized lantern with a vintage vibe. Here’s a few that have caught my eye lately.
Ok. this isn’t exactly a lantern, but I love everything about this entry so I included it.
A few in the kitchen/dining areas…
in the living area:
Well…what do you think?
Are you a fan of lanterns?
xo

I’m linking up with these friends:
yes yes yes. i only have one and it's in our powder room. it's what i really wanted for our entry but the space required something gigantic. these images are amazing! i recently saw a zinc one on velvet and linen i loved. not sure if you have visited brooke's blog lately.
ReplyDeletebest to you!

Beautiful inspiration photos, Leslie! Classic, yet modern...I love them!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the lanterns, I'm looking at them too!
ReplyDeleteWonderful inspiration. Makes me want to rethink our entry. The very first image is my favorite lantern. I like everything about that room. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI like them all, but I think I still like the one you had before the best. I can understand though how with a new house you'd like to try something new and different. I don't think you could go wrong with any of those choices. The rooms and lanterns are all beautiful and great inspiration.

Oh yes...I love all of these Leslie...especially the one you call not 'exactly a lantern' ;) they add such style...unfortunately I don't have my favourite lantern in our rental house at the moment it's carefully wrapped in the loft awaiting a new home ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your lovely comment on my blog...I've begun writing lists again!!
Have a great week lovely lady xx
They are fine, however I do think they are a fad that is not going to last very long.
ReplyDeleteYes. There is some lantern love going on here too! Go for it! Just found! Enjoyed my visit. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I love every single one you showed. I have a Ballard one over the desk in my office but I plan on putting one or two in the kitchen if I ever get around to renovating that room! I love the look and can't wait to see where you put one in your new home...which I am so excited to see! Don't make us wait too long for a peek!

Absolutely, positively yes! I've been pinning lanterns too and thinking I need one over my dining room table. I especially love them in foyers, but my ceiling are too low. If you have the height, go for it! Can't wait to hear more about your new home!
ReplyDeleteI think a lantern would be fabulous. Love all of your pics. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the look of lanterns!! I want to replace the light over the table in my kitchen for a lantern.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of an oversized lantern, but I haven't seen your space!!
ReplyDeleteI love them…used to have two over our kitchen island two houses ago. I am recommending three in a large living room right now.
ReplyDeleteI love lanterns! I could have them all over the house and on my patio but I have to slow myself down! LOL
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the first pic -- and the last two. (Added them to my "farmhouse" file!) I agree that lanterns are probably a trend that won't last, but in a casual setting (like a farmhouse), I think they'll always look great!
ReplyDeleteYes. I'm a fan. I'm a little bowled over by that last dining room. Holy Moly!
ReplyDeleteSome gorgeous lanterns here!! I'm anxious to see your new place come together.
ReplyDeleteOh absolutely! Huge fan of lanterns inside and out!
ReplyDeleteYes, I love lanterns. We just hung one in the front of our old fashioned garage. I will have to blog it someday soon. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to see your new house and all that you will do.
:-)
We have a set of three ~ two will go over the island and one in the entry. Hopefully the size and style will work in the new house. Beautiful photos and lots of inspiration! Hope things are settling down for you Leslie. We are living in crazy-ville ;) with construction everywhere. {deep breathing helps} xxL
ReplyDeleteI love all the inspiration photos you've shared today, Leslie. I had to go back and look again, because I was too busy looking at everything else in the rooms! A previous owner of our home told me her daughter has a lantern fixture that was original to our house and I wish I could see it! This particular owner removed every single light bulb in the house before she left. Apparently things didn't go her way in the sale of the house. She also took the toilet paper. hehe
ReplyDeleteHave fun shopping for new light fixtures!
I love the look of lanterns. I actually don't have a good place to hang one in my house though. Totally think you should get one though.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so excited for you that you are finally moving into your new (to you) house.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to use your creativity to bring it to life for you.
I love the idea of lanterns.
What are did you finally settle on?
We are the biggest fan of lanterns and think they add the perfect touch to so many spaces. Love them over an island!
ReplyDeleteEven if I wasn't such a huge fan of lanterns, after reading this post I would be! Such beautiful examples of lanterns. I believe them to be classic and you cannot go wrong with a beautiful, even understated lantern.
ReplyDelete(sorry to be late to the party, my computer has been broken...now it's fixed)
xo,
Karen
I love lanterns! I'm sure whatever you choose will be gorgeous. Can't wait to see!

Adore! I think you should go for it. xo
ReplyDeleteI love them too...I would take any of these...
ReplyDeleteI have had lantern envy for some time now. I never seem to see one in my price range that looks "aged" just right. Beautiful images Leslie. I really do love the effect of the larger scaled ones.
ReplyDeletei LOVE lanterns. the bigger the better. we used the bolton from PB for our dining room. my only regret about using it is that our twin boys bedroom is right above it and every time they horse around it rattles. but i'd use a lantern in there again in a heartbeat. check out the lanterns on coleen and company...some real lantern eye candy on there.
