Awhile ago I wrote THIS post about the ten things you should look for while browsing through thrift stores, but I intentionally left fake flowers off the list because truthfully, I rarely buy them.
Although I’ve seen some great looking silk arrangements and ones that look pretty in large bunches. But here’s my other problem with realistic-looking fakes: they’re so expensive.
And high prices make me yearn for the real thing.
(yes, those are fakes on my mantel)
But I recently stumbled on some great deals when I popped into my favorite thrift store, so I thought I’d share them here. And see what you think.
Most were bundled in cloudy bags of plastic and marked at 99 cents each.
And this was my big spurge. I planned on cutting the stems of these Hydrangeas and sticking them into an arrangement, but once I plopped the whole plant into this pot, I sort of liked it.
Then I grabbed this basket (that goes on my front door) and stuffed it with newspaper at the bottom ...
And I started grabbing the flowers that looked most realistic…
and I began filling the basket.
When I opened the lavender all the seeds spilled out on my table and I was delighted to have the scent everywhere. One of those unexpected joys.
I immediately began sticking them inside to add some spiky texture. Mixing real and fake together…hmm I liked that.
What do you think about this? It’s a simple wildflower look with some pink and lavender hues in honor of Valentine’s Day.
It’s going on my door with some pots of pink cyclamen.
And here’s one more shot of the basket of fake hydrangeas are on my mantel.
And now…
I think I have one more thing to add to my list of quirky-items-to-find at thrift stores.
What do you think?
Do you use fake flowers in your home?

I am not a fan of fake flowers. With that being said ~ there are some nice ones out there but the prices are way too high for my liking! If I could find ones I liked for the right price I would buy them. That lavender was a steal you lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteI do not have any fake flowers in my house, but here's the kicker. While I don't display fakes INSIDE, I have no problem hanging them OUTSIDE. I have fake flower wreathes that I hang on my front door, And your door basket is CUTE CUTE CUTE! I am on the hunt for one of those. If I ever find one, I'm actually thinking of lining it and planting real flowers in it, but for me that's awfully ambitious. I'll probably just stick a bunch of fake ones out there where the neighbors have to look at them.
ReplyDeleteI think some fake flowers looks pretty realistic, and some don't. Definitely the fake one make for easy care :)
ReplyDeleteI have had some really nice flowers that were fake, but these days I'm only going for the real thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of faux flowers but if they are the right ones, I don't mind them. In fact, we have the same Welcome basket that you showed hanging on our front door. Yes it has little yellow fakies in it and I love it!
ReplyDeleteLeslie, it's all lovely! And yes, I do use faux flowers in my home. Not a ton but I do have a small collection of nice faux florals that I keep around to pull out when I get the itch to decorate for spring. I just pulled a bunch out the other day to add a bit of valentiney color!
ReplyDeleteI love the new look on your mantel Leslie, and the hydrangeas look great in that pretty basket! Love the basket for your door too!
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of buying fake flowers anywhere but in a craft store. I think you made a haul and they looks so pretty! I'm so allergic to dust, pollen, etc. so I rarely have fake flowers inside. I love your hydrangeas and the basket is adorable! Having the lavender fragrance is a bonus ~ :)

I love fresh flowers but sometimes the faux flowers can be great. I love your arrangements. Your newest follower, Laura
ReplyDeleteI use the good faux ones and usually get them on sale. I did buy white tulips at Hobby Lobby and love them! Love your finds, you were certainly lucky!
ReplyDeletefollowing you back--thanks for the thoughtful comment.
ReplyDeleteyour fakes look great! i'm in the faux outdaux camp (that was realllllly bad). i tucked cheapy fakes in with the realz in my window boxes. they hold up unusually well outside!

I'm not a fan of fake flowers...I love the beauty and the smell of fresh flowers...although I think your hydrangeas here, look great!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week, Leslie.

I think you found the key...alter, alter, alter! Silk flowers have come along way and now can be of very high quality. I always prefer fresh, but, I have a coal bucket of silk hydrangeas, too! Sometimes you just NEED some hydrangeas!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind fake flowers, as long as they don't look fake. There are so many realistic looking ones out now that I don't mind paying a little more for them. It still is cheaper than buying real ones every 10 days or so. Still, I don't like it when they collect dust or fade, so changing them out does eventually become necessary. I think they're perfect for wreaths where you can't use real flowers and for a few indoor arrangements, but I don't like a house full or fake ones stuck in the ground outside or those big ugly fake trees and plants invading an entire house! I'd much rather have real flowers all the time but since I can't, a few faux blooms works for me! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteThose hydrangeas really work. And I hate cutting my real hydrangeas outside (when they bloom!) I confess I've bought some chic fake fleurs but they require intricate dusting, and I'm far too lazy. Most of my lovely vases are empty all year, apart from stashes of roses in summer (my garden is full of them). Xxx

ReplyDeleteIs there room for one more in your gorgeous home???
