Before and After

This post is for Melissa.

This is the Before photo.

Melissa emailed me a few weeks back and asked me about this coffee table of mine. Do you remember this project?

She was wondering if I’d ever finished it because she wanted to show her hubby the photos, and possibly paint her own table. And I have to tell you. I was so happy to get an email asking about one of my projects, well…I was tickled actually.

And it’s been in the back of my mind.

Get-those-photos-posted for Melissa. Because you know those husbands. They do better when they can see pictures first, don’t you think?

So after a few busy weeks, here they are… finally!

This is the photo of the pine Ethan Allen coffee table I’d bought on Craigslist. It had a clear finish on it so I decided to use chalk paint, because I really hate sanding furniture if I don’t have to.

After I painted it, I added a blend of clear and dark wax into the grooves.

Here’s how it turned out. As you can see, I decided to leave the top alone.

And in case you’re new here, I should tell you that I also went a little crazy with the white paint.

Remember these bricks?

It wasn’t just the coffee table that got a make-over.

Yep. I used white chalk paint on my bricks too.

I just looked around one day and everything seemed so dark. And it’s amazing how a little paint can change the feel of the room. Heck, I even painted the frame of the mirror.

Sometimes you just need to grab a paint brush and see what happens. I call it my paint therapy.

What are you up to these days?

xoxo

OMGosh! I have a big brown microfiber sectional the goes all the way around in a U shape too. I've been looking for a square coffee table I like for a long time. Yours is so cute. Nice makeover. By the way, I type "Ethan Allen" in on Craig's List at least once a week hoping to find two dining room chairs to match the ones I inherited from my parents. I have 6 chairs, but I need 2 more for when I extend the table. I found the exact chairs on Ebay, but there's no way I'm paying shipping after paying what the seller is asking for those chairs. I have faith that I will eventually find them locally. Love Craig's List!

Wow!! Did the white paint ever change things up!! I have the same coffee table and the hubs doesn't like it so
I'm going to do the same. Now I just have to find out who sells chalk paint here.....

Love that table Leslie ~ it turned out good!! I am too much of a chicken to paint my bricks but you now have me looking at my coffee table and end tables upstairs ~ I see antique white in their future!

Love the white paint job on everything! I am just going to start painting furniture for my new craft room and am timid about starting. I will refer to your tips about not having to sand first!

The painted legs and skirt look great. Back when I was decorating my son's room I was obsessed with find an old Ethan Allen bedroom set for him. I finally gave up and bought something newer, but I still love the look of those older EA pieces.

I love how you added so much white. And the table is amazing. I like that you only colored the legs.
